Charlie Aimone 36-Point Game Leads RHIT Past Earlham

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team defeated the Earlham College Quakers by a final score of 82-66 in Heartland Conference action Wednesday night in Hulbert Arena.

Rose-Hulman was led by an offensive outburst from sophomore Charlie Aimone.  Aimone surpassed his previous career-high of 29 points set earlier this season at Baldwin Wallace with a 36 point outburst Wednesday night.  In the first half, the 6'6" wing connected on 7 of 10 field goal attempts including 5 of 7 three-point attempts scoring 21 of the Fightin' Engineers' 38 points in the first 20 minutes.  In the second period, Aimone connected on 4 of 5 attempts from the field and made all six of his free throw attempts.  On the night Aimone finished 11-15 from the floor, 6-8 from beyond the three-point arc and 8-9 from the charity stripe.  Aimone also grabbed six boards and dished out three assists.

Freshman John Czarnecki also had a strong game inside for the Fightin' Engineers.  Czarnecki nearly eclipsed his career-high performance of 18 points with a 17 point effort in the win against the Quakers.  Czarnecki was a perfect 7-7 from the field and drilled a three-pointer in front of the Rose-Hulman bench in the second half.

The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers shot the ball well as a team knocking in 27 of 40 attempts, good for a 67.5% clip.  The last time a Rose-Hulman team shot 65% or better from the field was back on February 28, 2016 against Mount St. Joseph.  The Fightin' Engineers also shot 52.9% from three, nailing nine of 17 attempts in the game. RHIT was also 19-23 (82.6%) from the foul line.  Nine different Engineers scored in the contest.  Senior Collin Wojcik grabbed six boards and dished out a career-high seven assists.

With the win the Fightin' Engineers improved to 7-9 and 5-4 in the Heartland Conference. Earlham fell to 5-11 and 1-8 HCAC.  The men will return to action on Saturday January 21 against Transylvania.  RHIT knocked off Transylvania 77-70 back on December 17 in Lexington, Ky.  Tipoff from Hulbert Arena will be at 1 p.m.
