Volleyball Splits Friday Doubleheader; RHIT Returns to Court Saturday

ADA, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology split a pair of matches to open the Ohio Northern Triangular match on Friday.  

In the opener, No. 21 ranked Ohio Northern battled its way to a 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 win over the Fightin' Engineers.  Bailey MacInnis and Katie Orbeta led Rose-Hulman with eight kills each.  Orbeta added a team-high 19 assists and 17 digs.  

Gabi Razma led the defensive effort with 21 digs.  Other players with double-figure digs included Alison Rogozinski with 15 and Becca Poppel with 10. Mackenzie Gossard led the squad with two block assists.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman placed three players in double figures in kills with a balanced offensive effort to defeat Albion 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 27-25.

Poppel led the team with 13 kills, with Orbeta and MacInnis adding 12 each.  Orbeta recorded her third triple-double in three weeks by contributing 34 assists and 14 digs.  Rogozinski pitched in with 20 assists and 18 digs.

Other key contributors included Razma with 38 digs; Katryna Dahlberg with 18 digs; and Gossard with a team-high six block assists.  Maria Bruner added seven kills and three block assists to the effort.

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-10 on the season and concludes the Ohio Northern Triangular with a contest against John Carroll on Saturday at 2 p.m.

* John Carroll picked up a conference victory by sweeping Wilmington on Sept. 30.
* John Carroll finished 1-3 at the OAC/HCAC Challenge on Sept. 22-23.  The Blue Streaks defeated Mount St. Joseph in three sets, and dropped three-set matches to Bluffton, Defiance and Hanover.
* Rose-Hulman has never faced John Carroll.
