Football Narrowly Falls to Franklin on Senior Day

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology gave Franklin College a four-quarter battle in a matchup of unbeaten Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams, before the visiting Grizzlies earned a 29-22 victory on Senior Day at Cook Stadium.

Andrew Dion finished 26-46 through the air for 327 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Fightin' Engineer offense.  Raymond Burtnick added 163 receiving yards and his 13th touchdown catch of the season, while Noah Thomas had 11 receptions for 118 and one score for Rose-Hulman.  Garrett Wight helped balance the performance with 117 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Chase Burton led the Franklin offense with a 32-54 passing day for 467 yards and three touchdowns.  Tanner Wroblewski led the receivers with 175 yards on 11 receptions, and Jordan Brown rushed for 166 yards on 34 carries for the Grizzlies.

Defensively, Zach Phillips led Rose-Hulman with 14 tackles and Alec Thompson added eight tackles and forced one fumble.  Tyler Brutofsky contributed a fumble recovery to the defensive effort, and Mike Henry and Kaelen Garner recorded seven tackles each.

Franklin took the early lead at 7-0 on a one-yard touchdown run by Burton.  Rose-Hulman closed the margin within 7-3 on a 30-yard field goal by Matt Murray with 4:41 left in the opening half.

Franklin increased its lead to 14-3 on an eight-yard touchdown strike from Burton to Deontez Alexander.  Rose-Hulman brought the margin within 14-9 at the break on a 24-yard scoring strike from Dion to Thomas.

Rose-Hulman took an eight-point lead with two touchdowns in the first seven minutes of the second half.  The Fightin' Engineers took the opening drive of the second half 68 yards in seven plays, capped by a four-yard pass from Dion to Burtnick to make the score 15-14.

The Rose-Hulman lead reached 22-14 on its next drive, an 89-yard march that featured an acrobatic tipped 30-yard catch by Burtnick.  Wight capped the scoring drive with a 16-yard touchdown run with 8:11 left in the third quarter.

Franklin answered with two touchdowns in the third quarter on passes of 21 and 64 yards by Burton.  Rose-Hulman reached the Franklin 44-yard line on an early fourth quarter drive, but the Grizzly defense held to secure a fifth conference win.

Rose-Hulman stands 6-2 overall and 5-1 in HCAC play, while Franklin improved to 5-2 and 5-0 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers travel to Bluffton University next weekend.
