TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman scored a big Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win on Saturday afternoon after the Fightin' Engineers defeated visiting Manchester University by a final score of 2-0.
With the stands full for Homecoming 2017, the Rose-Hulman offense got things going in the 32nd minute. Senior Austin Webb took a free-kick from the left of the box that clanged off of the crossbar but junior Will McGowen was right there in the box to clean up the ball and fire it into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Just three minutes later, it was again Webb generating offense for the Fightin' Engineers as he squeezed a tight cross just in front of the Manchester goalie Brady Foreman that found freshman Brevin Lacy who finished the play for his first career goal.
The Rose-Hulman lead would withstand a couple of close shot attempts by Manchester late in the second half. Senior goalie Carter Wright collected seven saves to help preserve the clean sheet. He also picked up his fourth win of the season.
On the day, the Fightin' Engineers out shot Manchester 13-11 and held a 6-4 advantage on corner kicks.
The win improves RHIT to 7-4-1, 2-1-0 HCAC. Manchester fell to 4-8-0, 0-3-0 HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Wednesday October 11th at 7 pm when the Anderson University Ravens visit Terre Haute.
