TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman women's soccer team used a big second half to rally past the visiting Manchester University Spartans on Saturday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers scored all three of their goals in the second period to secure a 3-1 victory on Homecoming.
With both teams scoreless through 45 minutes of play, the Spartans kicked off the second half with a quick goal to take an early 1-0 lead. Maranda Birmingham slipped past the Rose-Hulman defense and scored just 42 seconds into the second half.
With plenty of time left in the game, the Rose-Hulman offense, which out shot Manchester 19-9 on the day, began to find its stride. Junior Lauren London scored her first goal of 2017 in the 58th minute to even the score at one. Jessica Wells and Maggie Sheerin teamed up for the assist on London's goal.
Just over a minute later, Wells found herself on a breakaway and fired a shot past the Manchester keeper Cami Holford to give the Figthin' Engineers a 2-1 lead.
RHIT would add to that lead in the 70th minute when Wells found Stef Panzenhagen on the right side. Panzenhagen drilled a shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
With the win RHIT improved to 5-7, 2-1 HCAC. Manchester fell to 0-11, 0-3 HCAC. The women will return to the pitch on Wednesday October 11th at 7 pm. The Fightin' Engineers will travel to Anderson University.
