TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Two of the top volleyball teams dueled for nearly two and a half hours Saturday evening inside of Hulbert Arena. The Bluffton Beavers overcame a valiant effort from Rose-Hulman, winning three sets to two by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 15-25, 25-19, and 19-17.
Junior Bailey MacInnis led the Rose-Hulman offense with 26 kills. MacInnis' 26 kills are the second-most in school history and the most kills in a match since Rose-Hulman's inaugural season back in 1996. The school record for kills in a match is 27. Becca Poppel and Katie Orbeta added 16 and 11 kills respectively. Orbeta nearly matched her career-high in assists with 42 helpers to record her second triple-double in as many weekends. Last season she had 44 assists against Bluffton. Senior Alison Rogozinski also finished in double figures in assists with 19.
The Fightin' Engineers had five players reach double figures in digs. Senior Gabi Razma led Rose-Hulman with 32 digs. Both Poppel and Rogozinski added 17 digs. Orbeta finished with 14 digs and freshman Katryna Dahlberg finished the match with 11 digs.
The loss on Saturday dropped Rose-Hulman to 13-9 and 3-1 HCAC. Bluffton improved to 11-9, 2-1 HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers will return to action on Wednesday October 11th at Franklin College. Matchtime is set for 7 pm.
