Last Second Shot Falls Short in 68-66 Loss at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology had a potential game winning three-point shot partially deflected at the buzzer, as DePauw University held on for a 68-66 men's basketball victory at Neal Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

DePauw led 66-61 in the final minute, before Stephen Schueth buried a three-pointer to bring Rose-Hulman within 66-64 at the 19-second mark.  David Vogel buried two free throws for DePauw to push the Tigers lead to 68-64.

Craig McGee scored on a quick layup to bring the Engineers within 68-66 with eight seconds left.  DePauw's Matt Merkle missed the front end of a 1-and-1 which was rebounded by Rose-Hulman, setting the stage for the final shot.

McGee led Rose-Hulman with a career-high 21 points with six rebounds and four assists.  Luke Callahan added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Ryuji Aoki reached double figures with 10 points.  Other key contributors included John Czarnecki with seven points, three rebounds and two blocked shots; Schueth with six points; Michael Lake with five points; and Charlie Aimone with four points.

Vogel paced the DePauw offense with 25 points.  Cris Burrough added 11 points for the Tigers.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a home game against Defiance on Saturday at 3 p.m., while DePauw improved to 2-2 on the campaign.
