GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology track and field teams won five events, set two school records and recorded five all-time top-five performances at the DePauw University Invitational on Saturday.
The effort helped the men win the 13-team meet with 142.5 points, outdistancing second place Wabash at 101.5. The women were third overall of 13 teams with 83 points, trailing just Kentucky Wesleyan (128) and Rhodes (97).
Junior Josh Himes led the way with two event wins and one noteworthy performance. Himes swept the shot put (52' 0") and weight throw (51' 5 1/2") titles, and passed his All-American father Stacy in the school's career record best with the third-best shot put mark in school history at 52' 0".
The Rose-Hulman distance medley relay team set a school record to win the event. The team of Brendon Mattiuz, Josh Hennig, Aaron Lannoy and Matt Hill established the mark with a winning time of 10:25.56.
Other event winners on the day included Hennig in the men's triple jump (41' 7 3/4") and Jaclyn Setina in the women's high jump (5' 5").
Sophomore Debie Gedeon led the runner-up performances by tying her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles (9.26 seconds). Other women's second-place finishers included Anne Boxeth in the mile run (5:44.35) and Gabi Razma in the triple jump (35' 7 1/4").
On the men's side, Rose-Hulman recorded four second-place finishes. Individually, runner-ups were earned Andrew Okruch in the shot put (48' 2"); Nick Palmer in the pole vault (14' 5 1/4"); and Kennedy Schnieders in the mile run (4:29.40). The 4-x-400 relay team of Alex Huber, John Evans, Lannoy and Nick Saulcy were also second in 3:30.94.
The women's distance medley relay team of Camille Blaisdell, Kristin East, Kally Morozin and Emilie Hobbs recorded the third-best Distance Medley Relay time in program history at 13:23.70. Razma added another third place on the women's side with a long jump of 15' 8 1/4".
Isaiah Smith led the men's third-place performances with a 200-meter dash time of 22.73 that ranks fourth in school history. Other third-place running finishers were Brendan Smyth in the 400 (51.95) and Alton Anspaugh in the mile (4:30.25). In field events, Josh Blome came home third in the pole vault (14' 5 1/4") and Okruch was third in the shot put (48' 9").
Rose-Hulman completed the men's indoor regular season with a team record of 34-1 heading into next weekend's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Sports and Recreation Center.
