Women's Basketball Wins 8th Straight by Topping MSJ

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won its eighth straight game and increased its home court winning streak to 21 with a 54-42 women's basketball win over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon at Hulbert Arena.

Sophomore Ally Bromenschenkel led the Fightin' Engineer offense with 18 points and eight rebounds on 6-9 from the field and 6-6 on the foul line.  Senior Josie Schmidt added 14 points, four rebounsd and three steals.

The balanced scoring attack also included Abby Bromenschenkel with six points, five rebounds and four steals; Taylor Graham with five points and three steals; and Chiarra Franklin with five points and six rebounds.

The offensive effort was enough for the win, as Rose-Hulman outrebounded Mount St. Joseph 51-20 in the contest and forced 22 turnovers.  Krystal Wannemacher led three players in double figures for Mount St. Joseph with 14 points.

Rose-Hulman led 15-14 after the opening qurater and turned a 22-20 lead into a 29-20 advantage by holding Mount St. Joseph without a point for four minutes of the second quarter.

In the second half, the lead remained near double figures at 42-33 after three quarters.  Rose-Hulman held Mount St. Joseph without a point for nearly nine minutes to push the lead as high as 14 points at 47-33 midway through the fourth quarter.

Rose-Hulman improved to 18-3 overall and 13-1 in HCAC play, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 2-19 and 1-13 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a home game against Earlham College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
