Buehler Gem Leads Rose-Hulman to Series Sweep

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a pitching gem from freshman Luke Buehler and a strong offensive performance to complete a baseball series sweep with a 7-2 win at Transylvania University on Sunday.

Buehler allowed just two hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts in seven innings of work to help the Fightin' Engineers win their fifth consecutive game.  Jacob Schult recorded the final six outs to complete the three-game sweep.

Offensively, Rose-Hulman had five players with multiple hits in a 13-hit attack.  Conner Shipley had a team-high three hits and scored two runs with two RBIs to pace the offense from the leadoff spot.  David Burnside provided the power with a two-run home run among two hits with three RBIs and one run scored.

Brian Thomas had two doubles and scored one run to further balance the offensive attack.  Logan Schiessle had a pair of singles, one run and one RBI, while Davis Robeson contributed a single, a double, two runs and one RBI.

With the score tied 1-1 in the seventh, Rose-Hulman scored four runs to gain control of the contest.  Robeson started the rally with a two-out double, followed by a single and a stolen base by Shipley.  Schiessle then added an RBI single, before Burnside capped the rally with a two-run home run.

Rose-Hulman increased its winning streak to five and move into second place in the HCAC standings.  Franklin leads the HCAC at 8-3, with Rose-Hulman just behind at 7-4.  The two HCAC leaders meet at Art Nehf Field on Tuesday night.
