Softball Falls in Season Finale on Senior Night

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completed the 2017 softball season by falling 14-4 and 8-4 to Franklin College in a doubleheader at the Engineer Softball Field on Monday night.

Franklin relied on 17 hits in the opener to secure the win. Alexis Tarver finished 4-4 with four runs scored, three RBIs and a home run to lead the Franklin offense.

The Rose-Hulman offense featured two singles from Maddie Struble, a double and an RBI by Morgan Dreyer, a single and two RBIs from Jessica Will and a single with an RBI by Ellissa Eckert.  Janel Lake also scored one run in the opener.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings to close within 6-4. Franklin answered with two more runs in the sixth to secure the victory.

Gabbi Markison, Cydney Ogan and Jenny Miller led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits each. Miller set a single-season school record with her 15th stolen base and scored two runs. Markison also scored one run.  Struble had two more RBIs.

Rose-Hulman honored seniors Dreyer, Eckert and Lake prior to their final home game.  The Fightin' Engineers won a total of 63 games during their college era.

The Fightin' Engineers finished 11-25 overall, while Franklin improved to 24-15 and 9-6 in conference play. The Grizzlies need one loss by Mount St. Joseph in a doubleheader at Anderson tomorrow to qualify for the HCAC Tournament.
