Football Opens HCAC Play at Home on Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineers will host Hanover College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

RHIT NEWS & NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman stands 1-1 entering conference play with its two non-conference games decided by a total of three points.  The Fightin' Engineers defended a two-point conversion with no time left to defeat Illinois College 33-32, then missed a late two-point conversion in a narrow 28-26 loss to Millikin.
* Andrew Dion led the offense in Saturday's home opener by finishing 30-45 for 389 yards and three touchdowns. He is 40-67 on the season for 544 yards and five touchdowns.
* Raymond Burtnick has a team-high four touchdowns among his 11 catches for 165 yards.  
* Zack Murphy has 201 yards on 11 receptions, including six catches for 173 yards last week.
* Defensively, Kaelen Garner was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after recording nine tackles and three sacks at Illinois College.
* Alec Thompson has been named a preseason All-American by D3football.com, Street & Smith's Yearbook and Herosports.
* Matt Murray was named HCAC Special Teams Player of the Week at Illinois College.  Murray is 4-4 on field goals and 5-5 on extra points, with a punting average of 39.0 yards this year.
* Rose-Hulman has been picked to finish second in the HCAC this season, according to the league's preseason coaches poll.

MEET THE OPPOSITION:
* Hanover has losses to two of the Southeast's top programs, Centre (27-14) and Maryville-TN (24-20) in competitive games.
* Chase Lightfoot leads the offense at 37-68 for 368 yards through two games. Justin Conners lead the ground attack with 126 rushing yards, and Lightfoot has three rushing touchdowns
* Defensively, Kyle Treber has a team-high 31 tackles along with one fumble recovery.  Layne Hanishfeger has 23 stops with three sacks.  Isaac Roman has a 68-yard interception return and 15 tackles.

GIVING BACK:
* Rose-Hulman players will display yellow shoelaces in the "Tackle Childhood Cancer" Game, sponsored by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
* Fans can purchase "Engineers Tackle Childhood Cancer" T-shirts for $10 in the Hulman Union during lunch hours on Friday, or at the game on Saturday.
* All proceeds will be donated to the "PS We Love You Fund at Riley Hospital for Children".  The PS We Love You Fund was started in memory of Patrick Stephen Barrett, son of Wabash Valley Football Coaches Association President Greg Barrett and his wife Molly.  Patrick lost his battle with cancer in March of 2016.

SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman and Hanover are tied 33-33-2.  Rose-Hulman won 31-13 last season.

DID YOU KNOW?
* Rose-Hulman and Hanover are completely tied in their overall series history, entering today's 69th meeting.  The Fightin' Engineers have earned four straight victories in the series and lead 8-3 in HCAC play.
