LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman and Transylvania men's soccer programs clashed on Saturday afternoon down in Lexington. The Fightin' Engineers upset bid came up just short as RHIT dropped its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener to the nineteenth-ranked Pioneers by a final score of 1-0.
Rose-Hulman nearly got on the scoreboard first in the 56th minute when a header from Cobi Illian hit off of the crossbar. Rose-Hulman had a limited number of opportunities in the game, finishing the match with seven shots.
Riley Calhoon scored the lone goal of the match in the 60th minute. It was his eight goal of the season. The Pioneers finished with 17 shots, five of which were on goal.
Senior goalie Carter Wright collected four saves in the loss.
The Engineers fell to 5-4-1, 0-1-0 HCAC in 2017. No. 19 Transylvania remained perfect at 8-0-0, 1-0-0 HCAC. RHIT will return to action on Wednesday October 4th against in-state rival Earlham College. Kickoff from Intramural Field is set for 7 pm.
