Women's Basketball Handles Franklin for 9th Straight Win

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology shot 50% from the field and relied on a strong defensive effort to defeat Franklin College 74-41 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.

Rose-Hulman won its ninth straight game overall and improved to 11-3 on the season with the victory.  The Fightin' Engineers stand a perfect 7-0 in the HCAC this season, one game ahead of Bluffton.

Alyzia Dilworth and Ally Bromenschenkel led the Rose-Hulman offense with 17 points each.  Dilworth was 7-11 from the field, while Bromenschenkel added seven rebounds on 7-13 from the field.

Chiarra Franklin and Lindsey Fagerberg also reached double figures with 12 points and 10 points, respectively.  Franklin had seven rebounds and shot 5-8 with three assists and three steals, and Fagerberg was 5-9 from the field with three rebounds.

Rose-Hulman scored 23 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second to jump out to a 35-19 lead at the break.  The edge reached 26 points at the end of the third quarter, and Rose-Hulman relied on its bench to have nine total players combine to score.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included Taylor Graham with seven points; Debie Gedeon with four points; and Kayla Gerken with three points and five rebounds.

Bayleigh Walker led Franklin with 14 points, as the Fightin' Engineer defense held Franklin to just 28% from the field.

Rose-Hulman stands 11-3 and 7-0 in HCAC play, while Franklin dropped to 3-10 and 2-5 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers return home for the Breast Cancer Awareness Day game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in a showdown against Bluffton.  Over 40 local cancer survivors will be honored in a pregame program approximately 2:45 as part of the men's and women's doubleheader on Saturday.
