Game Recap: Men's Swimming and Diving |

Swimming & Diving Teams Win 20 Events in Dominant Effort vs. IWU

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for 20 event victories in a strong performance against Illinois Wesleyan University at the Sports & Recreation Center Natatorium on Saturday.

The men's squad captured a dominating 228-55 win over Illinois Wesleyan, while the women narrowly fell 153-117 in the team scoring.

Freshman diver Peter Venema highlighted the effort with a school record performance in 1-meter diving.  Venema scored 289.72 points to take top honors and also won the 3-meter competition with 271.55 points.

William Kemp also added a pair of victories in 400-individual medley (4:19.12) and the 1,000-freestyle (10:36.02).

Other men's individual winners included Sean Gish in the 100-freestyle (48.86); Nicholas Jeronis in the 200-butterfly (2:03.01); Patrick King in the 100-butterfly (54.02); Dutch Kipp in the 100-backstroke (55.38); Evan Meredith in the 200-freestyle (1:49.73); Ethan Park in the 200-breaststroke (2:16.52); Michael Rosier in the 200-backstroke (2:05.02); and Nick Samra in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.96).

The Fightin' Engineer men also swept both relay events.  The 200-medley relay featured Kemp, Zachary Forster, Rosier and Tyler Sariscsany in 1:39.09.  The 200-freestyle team of Kemp, Sariscsany, Gish and Gill also won in 1:27.67.

On the women's side, Michaela Kivett provided the highlight by sweeping both diving event titles.  Kivett won 1-meter with 228.46 points and captured the 3-meter win with 217.70 points.

Other individual winners included Parker Brady in the 200-backstroke (2:19.23) and Elisa Weber in the 200-breaststroke (2:36.39).

The women's squad also swept both relay events.  Brady, Weber, Bethany Lefeber and Lauren Blake claimed the 200-medley in 1:56.49. Weber, Blake, Maria Kline and Elle Nowakowski claimed first-place honors in the 400-freestyle in 3:52.37.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at home on Friday with a matchup against nationally ranked Calvin.
