TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's swimming and diving team relied on its depth to knock off No. 11 ranked Calvin 152-148 on Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center Natatorium.
Rose-Hulman, ranked No. 26 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com top 25 poll, showcased its overall team strength by winning the meet despite Calvin winning 10 of 16 events. On the women's side, No. 13 ranked Calvin won the women's meet by a score of 208-83.
Ethan Park led the Fightin' Engineer victory with three event wins. Park captured first place honors in the 100-breaststroke (1:00.08), 200-breaststroke (2:10.97) and 200-individual medley (1:59.31).
Other winners for Rose-Hulman included William Kemp in the 200-backstroke (2:00.04); Avery Krovetz in the 500-freestyle (4:53.80); and Ben Stone in the 200-freestyle (1:46.79).
Rose-Hulman relied on three key events to capture the narrow four-point win. The Fightin' Engineers finished 1-2-3 in the 100-breaststroke; 2-3-4-5 in the men's 50-freestyle; and 1-2 in the 200-individual medley.
On the women's side, Elisa Weber led the performance with a win in the 200-breaststroke (2:36.44). Weber came home with the second-fastest time of the night in both the 100-breaststroke (1:15.09) and 200-individual medley (2:21.55).
Other runner-ups for the women included Maria Kline in the 1,000-freestyle (11:39.26) and Bethany Lefeber in the 100-butterfly (1:03.15).
Rose-Hulman returns to action with its Senior Night home meet against Franklin College on Friday Jan. 26.
