Men's Basketball Tops Earlham for 6th Straight Win

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed four players in double figures and shot 55% from the field to pick its sixth straight victory, 90-75 at Earlham College on Saturday afternoon.

Ryuji Aoki led the Fightin' Engineer offense with 21 points and five three-pointers.  Luke Callahan added 17 points on 8-9 from the field with nine rebounds to provide scoring depth.

Craig McGee narrowly missed a triple-double with 12 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, and Nick McGrail was the fourth Fightin' Engineer in double figures with 11 points.

Rose-Hulman shot 55% from the field, hit eight three-pointers and buried 14-19 free throws in another solid shooting performance that has defined the team's winning streak.  Other key contributors included Charlie Aimone with seven points and five rebounds; John Czarnecki with six points; and Eli Combs with five points and three rebounds.

Earlham placed five players in double figures in the contest, led by Darrell Hutchison with 19 points and Austin Doliboa with 14.

Rose-Hulman led for much of the first half, before Earlham rallied to close within 41-39 at the break.  With the score 52-46, Aoki hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to increase the Fightin' Engineeer lead to double figures at 58-46 with 13:44 remaining.

A layup from McGee, a score from Callahan and two free throws by Aoki pushed the lead to 14 points at 63-49 at the 12:03 mark.  The Engineers then relied on baskets from JT Whitaker, McGrail and a three-pointer by Aoki to gain a 70-52 lead and secure the victory.

Rose-Hulman improved to 5-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and 7-6 overall with the victory.  Earlham stands at 3-10 and 1-5 in league play.  The Fightin' Engineers return home to face Franklin College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
