TERRE HAUTE Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team came up short in the HCAC tournament semifinal match against Transylvania after a penalty kick shootout on Tuesday, October 30.  This wraps up the Engineers 2018 season with a record of 9-6-3 overall and 6-2-1 in the HCAC. 

The first half showed to be a highly defensive battle between both teams.  Transylvania was able to out-shoot the Engineers 5-3 in the first half.  Neither team was able to get to the net which led to a scoreless match heading into halftime.  

The second half continued to be extremely competitively .  Rose-Hulman out-shot Transylvania 4-2 in the second period, but neither team was able to take advantage of a scoring opportunity.  This forced the match into overtime still scoreless at the end of regulation.  Neither team could get a clean shot at the goal and after the second overtime period the match ended in a draw. To decide who advanced to the championship game, the match was taken to a penalty kick shootout.  

The Engineers and Pioneers went back and forth on penalty kick opportunities.  PJ Renz, Ross Klauer, Ryan Tarr, and Wyatt McKibbon were able to execute their penalty kicks while Pascal Schlee was able to record one save to give Rose-Hulman a shot at the victory.  The Pioneers Zach Hill was able to score the final penalty kick in the shootout to give Transylvania the win with a count of 5-4 and advance them to the HCAC Championship game against Hanover on Saturday, November 3.  

Goalie Pascal Schlee ended the night with two saves after two shots on goal for the Engineers.  Will McGowen was able to lead the team offensively with three shots.
