Charlie Aimone Crosses 1,000-Point Mark in Road Win at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Charlie Aimone became the latest member of the Fightin' Engineer men's basketball 1,000-point club to highlight the Fightin' Engineers 83-57 victory at Fontbonne University on Tuesday night.

Aimone increased his career point total to 1,003 and crossed the 1,000-point mark on a jumper with 18:45 remaining in the second half.  He finished with eight points in the contest and joined less than 40 players in school history with 1,000 career points.

Junior Eli Combs and junior John Czarnecki led the Rose-Hulman offense with 14 points each.  Combs tallied a career-high on 6-9 from the field with his first career double-double that included 10 rebounds.  Czarnecki was 6-8 from the field and added four rebounds.

Zach Callahan came off the bench with career-highs of nine points and seven rebounds.  Ryuji Aoki joined Aimone with eight points each.

Luke Callahan added six points for the Engineers, and Samvit Ram contributed five points to the effort.  Fifteen players earned time for Rose-Hulman, and 13 of those players found the scoreboard.

Rose-Hulman led 36-25 at the break, then jumped out to a 10-4 run to open the second half.  The lead reached 17 points at 46-29 on a score by Luke Callahan with 14:06 remaining.

Fontbonne rallied to within 10 points at 48-38, but seven straight points capped by a pair of Zach Callahan free throws pushed the Rose-Hulman advantage to 57-40 with 9:02 left.  The lead hit 20 points at 60-40 on a three-point play by Czarnecki with 8:42 left.

Rose-Hulman outrebounded Fontbonne 44-28 and forced 15 turnovers in the victory.  Jared Woodcock led Fontbonne with 21 points.

Rose-Hulman improved to 2-1 on the season, while Fontbonne dropped to 2-2.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a road matchup at Wabash College on Monday night.
