TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers were defeated by #20 Washington University in the first game of the Midwest Challenge with a final score of 62-37, dropping the Engineers to 1-3 overall this season.
Ally Bromenschenkel was the leader for the team offensively with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Sophie Brooks was able to make an impact coming off the bench scoring 7 points.
The game started as a defensive battle between both teams. A lack of scoring would put the game at 9-7 at the end of the first quarter with Washington University ahead. Washington University would start to build their lead in the second quarter after a 12-3 run. The Engineers would trail 27-18 going into halftime. Ally Bromenschenkel would lead the team in scoring with 5 points over two quarters.
Washington University would continue to build their lead in the second half behind a strong defensive effort. The score would stand at 48-26 going into the final quarter of play, before the Bears pulled away to earn a 62-37 victory.
The second game of the Midwest Challenge featured #9 DePauw University taking on #11 Illinois Wesleyan. Illinois Wesleyan was able to come away victorious with a final of 80-60.
The Engineers stand at 1-3 and will return to action tomorrow in the second day of the Midwest Challenge to face #9 DePauw University on Sunday, 11/25 at 2:00 PM. The second game on Sunday will feature #20 Washington University taking on #11 Illinois Wesleyan at 4:00 PM.
