Hanover Rallies to Earn Home Win Over Rose-Hulman Football

HANOVER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology jumped out to an early 14-0, before host Hanover College rallied to pick up a 29-14 win in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Dion tossed a pair of first quarter touchdown passes as the Fightin' Engineers built an early advantage.  Dion connected with Noah Thomas on a 29-yard touchdown pass early on the team's first drive, then hit Bryce Dobbs on an 11-yard strike with 3:29 left in the opening quarter to give the Engineers a two-score lead.

Hanover rallied with a safety to close within 14-2, then AJ Briet and Jared Frank connected on a 1-yard touchdown pass with four seconds left in the first half to close the Engineer lead to 14-9 at the break.

In the second half, Jake Namisnak scored from two yards out to give Hanover a 15-14 lead with 7:32 left in the third quarter.  Breit and Frank combined for two more touchdowns, from 11 and 4 yards out, to provide the final points of the day.

Dion was held to 18-45 for 156 yards and two touchdowns by the Hanover defense.  Thomas had eight receptions for 74 yards to emerge as Dion's favorite target.  Garrett Wight added 86 rushing yards on 29 carries and also had four pass receptions for 28 yards.

The Rose-Hulman defense held Breit to just 16-30 passing for 118 yards on the day.  Frank had six receptions for 31 yards, and Mamisnak rushed for 85 yards to balance the Hanover offense.

Defensively, Matt Michalak had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles-for-loss to provide the biggest plays of the day.  Three players reached double figures in tackles, with John Kirby recording 14, Jack Heyl adding 13 and Coleson Carmell tallying 12.  Caleb Brown and Carter Hounshell had eight stops each.

Hanover improved to 6-3 on the season and 6-1 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 4-5 and 4-3 in league contests.  The Fightin' Engineers close the 2018 season at home against Earlham next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
