LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the men's team competition in the two-day Transylvania University Swimming and Diving Invitational, while the women came home fourth at the University of Kentucky.
Rose-Hulman won the men's competition with 1,003 points in the nine-team field. Franklin came home second with 694.5, followed by Rhodes at 462.
Rhodes took home the women's title in the nine-team field with 850 points. Franklin finished second, followed by Sewanee and Rose-Hulman.
Individually, Rose-Hulman won nine men's events in the two-day meet. Jared Brown and Brendan King led the way with two victories each.
Brown won the 50-freestyle in 21.31 seconds and earned first-place in the 100-freestyle in 46.49 seconds. King captured both the 500-freestyle (4:42.45) and 1650-freestyle (16:22.12) titles. Peter Venema added a fifth individual win in three-meter diving with 421.85 points.
The Fightin' Engineers also claimed four relay team victories. Relay winners included the 200-medley relay team of Ethan Park, Nick Samra, Bryce Snaguski and Dutch Kipp in 1:34.82. The 200-freestyle team of Kipp, Brown, Alex Ketcham and Gish won in 1:26.20. The 400-medley relay team of Park, Samra, Snaguski and Brown won in a time of 3:28.40. The 400-freestyle relay team of Kipp, Brown, King and Gish added a victory in 3:08.14.
On the women's side, Lauren Blake led the women's performance by breaking the longest standing Rose-Hulman women's swimming school record. Blake recorded a time of 1:07.93 in the 100-breaststroke to snap a record originally set in 2003.
Blake also topped the individual results with two third-place finishes. She came home third in both the 100-breaststroke (1:07.93) and the 200-freestyle (1:59.23). Michelle Reese added another third-place finish in one-meter diving (398.35).
Rose-Hulman also had two women's relay teams come home in third. The 800-freestyle relay team of Elisa Weber, Blake, Maria Kline and Tana Hendrickson compiled a time of 8:15.60, and the 200-medley relay team of Parker Brady, Blake, Weber and Kline finished in 1:53.43.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at home against DePauw University on Jan. 11.
