Fightin' Engineers Shoot 68% in 102-75 Victory Over Millikin

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on its best shooting performance in two years to defeat Millikin University 102-75 in men's basketball action on Saturday at Hulbert Arena.

The Fightin' Engineers shot 68% from the field on 36-of-53 overall and also hit 9-of-15 from three-point range.  The balanced performance included Rose-Hulman shooting 69% in the second half and 67% in the opening 20 minutes.

Charlie Aimone led the four players in double figures with a season-high 22 points on 8-of-10 from the field.  Ryuji Aoki scored a season-high 18 points on 5-6 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line.  Craig McGee added 15 points and eight assists, and John Czarnecki contributed a season-high 15 points on 7-8 from the field.

Fourteen Rose-Hulman players dented the scoring column on the day in a balanced performance.  Eli Combs scored five points, and Trey Sykes, Jacob Back, Samvit Ram and Trey Wurtz scored four points each to provide depth.

Rose-Hulman also crossed the 100-point mark for the first time since defeating Anderson 103-86 on Jan. 13, 2016.

Zach Fisher hit five three-pointers and scored 21 points to lead the Millikin offense.

Rose-Hulman led 16-11, before a 17-3 spurt put the Engineers ahead 33-14 with 7:46 left in the opening half.  Aimone scored four straight points and Aoki hit a pair of free throws to cap the run.

Millikin rallied to within nine points at 33-24, but another strong effort resulted in Rose-Hulman closing the first half on a 17-5 run to take a 50-29 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, Rose-Hulman scored 16 points in the first five minutes to push the lead to 66-38 and secure its third straight win.

Rose-Hulman enters the Holiday Break at 7-4 overall, while Millikin dropped to 6-5.  The Fightin' Engineers return home on Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m. to face Hanover in a rematch of the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game.
