TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored a season-high 20 runs to top Wisconsin-Platteville Saturday morning, before a 15-hit attack proved not enough in a 14-6 loss to Chicago to open the Fightin' Engineer 2018 home baseball schedule.

Rose-Hulman relied on a four-run second inning, a five-run fourth inning and a seven-run eighth inning to score a season-best 20 times in the 20-3 opening game win over Wisconsin-Platteville.

The 21-hit attack was led by Conner Helbling with four hits, including a double.  Helbling also scored three times with one RBI.

David BurnsideHarris Camp and Davis Robeson added three hits each.  Burnside scored four runs with two singles, a double and two RBIs.  Camp recorded three singles with one run and two RBIs.  Robeson finished with three singles and scored three runs.

Ryan Stachowski added a strong game with a 2-2 performance that included a three-run double among his five RBIs.  Luke Kluemper and Zach Donnelly added two hits each, with Donnelly scoring twice.

On the mound, Clayton Mayfield picked up the win with six strong innings of work.  Mayfield allowed seven hits with four strikeouts and just two runs allowed.  Chuck Alexa recorded the final nine outs for his first save of the season.

In the nightcap, Chicago relied on a seven-run first inning and a five-run sixth to capture a 14-6 win over Rose-Hulman.

Junior Conner Shipley led the game two offense with a career-high five hits.  Shipley finished 5-5 with five singles, one run scored and one RBI.  Donnelly added two singles and two RBIs, Logan Cody recorded a pair of hits, and Shaine Mitchell scored twice for the Fightin' Engineers.

Chicago, after defeating Wisconsin-Platteville 7-6 on a ninth-inning walk-off home run by Maximiliano Larsen earlier Saturday, had 14 hits in the victory.  Ian Bohn led the Maroons with three hits, three runs scored and one RBI.

Rose-Hulman stands 3-9 on the season and will face Chicago at 11 a.m. and Wisconsin-Platteville at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
