Rose-Hulman Baseball Rallies to Top Alma 6-5

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to pick up a 6-5 victory over Alma College in non-conference baseball action Friday morning in Florida.

The Fightin' Engineers relied on a two-run triple by Luke Calabrese and an RBI single by Davis Robeson to tie the score at 4-4 after seven innings.  Rose-Hulman added two more runs in the eighth to take the lead at 6-4 on a two-run triple by Logan Cody.

Alma rallied with one run in the ninth inning, but Luke Buehler came out of the Fightin' Engineer bullpen to record the final three outs and pick up his first save of the season.

Rose-Hulman led 1-0 after five innings, with starting pitcher Clayton Mayfield providing a strong outing.  Mayfield shutout the Scots for the first five innings, with 10 strikeouts and just two hits allowed.  Dylan Diorio later picked up the victory by pitching the Engineers out of an eighth-inning jam.

Buehler paced the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits and two runs scored, and Calabrese scored twice for the Engineers.  Ryan Stachowski provided the early RBI, putting the Engineers ahead halfway through the game.

Rose-Hulman improved to 1-5 on its annual Southern Trip and will travel to Atlanta for a doubleheader against Oglethorpe on Saturday to complete the week of games.
