Rose-Hulman Baseball Captures Saturday Sweep Over Transylvania

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completed a perfect 4-0 week in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over Transylvania University on Saturday at Art Nehf Field.

In the opener, Transylvania jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Fightin' Engineers scored 12 unanswered runs in the victory.  Rose-Hulman scored three times in the third and seventh innings, then pulled away with a five-run eighth inning.  Ryan Stachowski led the offense with a two-run home run and a two-run double.  Conner Helbling added three hits, including a double, with three runs scored and two RBIs to provide balance.

Other offensive contributors in game one included Zach Donnelly with two singles; Davis Robeson with two singles, three runs scored and one RBI; and the duo of Logan Cody and Harris Camp with a single, one run and one RBI.

The scoring outburst was more than enough for junior Luke Buehler to pick up his second win of the season.  Buehler scattered seven hits with six strikeouts, before Dan Connolly recorded the final four outs without allowing a run for his first save.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held off a late rally to claim a 5-4 victory.  Trever Bruno allowed just one earned run in seven innings with two strikeouts to pick up the pitching victory.  Clayton Mayfield recorded the final five outs to pick up his first save of the season.

Offensively, Sean Casey had a home run, a single, scored once and drove home two runs to lead Rose-Hulman.  Robeson also had two hits.  Zach Witonsky came off the bench to add a double, an RBI and one run scored.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a non-conference matchup against No. 3 ranked Wooster on Sunday at 1 p.m.
