TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won six events as the men placed second and the women third at the Fightin' Engineer Twilight Meet on Friday night at the William Welch Track and Field Complex.
The event featured 13 schools and over 700 athletes in one of the largest single-day meets in Indiana college track and field. Washington University swept the men's and women's titles, with Rose-Hulman placing second on the men's side and Illinois Wesleyan coming home second in the women's competition.
Rose-Hulman men's winners included Eric Fiacable in the hammer throw (180' 6"), Josh Himes in the discus (149' 1"), Nick Palmer in the pole vault (15' 7"), and Trey Sykes in the triple jump (44' 10 3/4"). The hammer throw mark by Fiacable ranks No. 2 in Rose-Hulman history.
On the women's side, Gabi Razma won the triple jump (35' 10 1/2") and Jaclyn Setina came home first in the high jump (5' 3").
Rose-Hulman combined for seven runner-up finishes on the evening. Adekite Oladipupo had the women's second-place effort in the long jump (17' 4 1/4"). Men's running event second-place finishers included Alton Anspaugh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:42.46) and Josh Hennig in the 400-meter hurdles (56.70).
Field event runner-up finishers for the Rose-Hulman men included Fiacable in the discus (144' 11"); Himes in the shot put (47' 11"); Cameron Prisby in the pole vault (15' 1"); and Nathan Schrader in the javelin (180' 5").
Rose-Hulman also had three third-place finishes on the evening. Debie Gedeon came home third in the women's 100-meter hurdles (15.61) and Jacob Sparks was third in the shot put (46' 2"). The men's 4-x-100 and women's 4-x-400 relays also came home in third place.
Matt Hill added a school record in the 3,000-meter run to cap the evening's highlights. Hill snapped his own mark by almost five seconds, dropping his new school record to 8:39.35.
Rose-Hulman will host the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships next Friday and Saturday April 27-28 at the William Welch Complex.
