GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology combined for 12 event victories in a strong team performance at the DePauw University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The men's squad easily outdistanced the competition with 218 points. Wabash came home second at 142, followed by DePauw at 119. On the women's side, nationally ranked Illinois Wesleyan won with 177 points, with Rose-Hulman at 144.5 and Franklin at 108.
Individually, Rose-Hulman was led by two men's and one women's competitor with two victories each. Trey Sykes led the men's squad with a sweep of the long jump (21' 0 3/4") and the triple jump (45' 5 3/4"), while Josh Himes won both the discus (148' 4") and shot put (51' 7 3/4"). Adekite Oladipupo paced the women's team with victories in the 100-meter dash (12.92) and the long jump (16' 7").
Nathan Schrader led the men's individual event winners with a javelin mark of 192' 5" that ranks No. 10 in NCAA Division III this season and No. 3 in Rose-Hulman history.
Other men's event winners included Nolan Gross in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:31.55); and Josh Hennig in the 400-meter dash (48.82).
On the women's side, event winners included Gabi Razma in the triple jump (34' 8 1/2"); Rachel Shubella in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:39.68); and the 4-x-400 meter relay team of Lindsey Fagerberg, Clare Bruns, Lois Cheatham and Razma(4:19.44).
Men's runner-up finishers included Eric Fiacable in the discus (146' 0") and the hammer (179' 2"); David Goncharov in the triple jump (43' 1"); Nick Palmer in the pole vault (14' 1 1/4"); Jacob Sparks in the shot put (46' 9"); and the 4-x-100 meter relay team of Dawson Allen, Sykes, Kristian Zadlo and Hennig (43.64).
Women's second-place efforts were turned in by Razma in both the 400 (1:01.42) and with a school record performance in the javelin (119' 2"); Oladipupo in the 200 (27.54); Jaclyn Setina in the high jump (5' 5 1/4"); and Jessica Wells in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:44.07).
Third-place finishers included Hennig in the triple jump (41' 7 3/4"); Aaron Starlin in the long jump (20' 5"); Sykes in the 200 (22.87); Jonah Yates (143' 11") and Zadlo in the pole vault (12' 7 1/2"). Fagerberg came home third in the women's triple jump (33' 5 3/4").
Rose-Hulman swept the top three men's events in both the discus and the triple jump in the impressive overall team performance.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Indiana Division III Championships at DePauw University next Saturday.
