Baseball Sweeps Wabash, Enters HCAC Tournament on 6-Game Win Streak

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology closed the 2018 baseball regular season on a six-game winning streak after sweeping Wabash College 6-5 and 7-1 in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.

Rose-Hulman improved to 19-21 overall and enters the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on a six-game winning streak.  The Fightin' Engineers will face Anderson University at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday as part of a five-team tournament held at regular season champion Franklin College.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman built a 4-2 lead early in the contest before withstanding a late charge by Wabash to earn a 6-5 victory.  The Fightin' Engineers scored twice in the ninth to take a 6-3 lead, before Wabash scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to close within the final margin.

Rose-Hulman recorded 11 hits in the opener, led by three players with two hits each.  David Burnside had a single, a double and scored one run.  Sean Casey contributed two singles, one run and one RBI.  Luke Calabrese pitched in with two singles and one run scored.  Conner Shipley added a double in the contest.

The offense allowed a trio of pitchers to combine for the Rose-Hulman win.  Jacob Petrisko picked up the win by scattering six hits and allowing just two runs in six innings of work.  Jacob Schult held Wabash to one run over two innings, before Ben Yoss recorded the final three outs to earn the save.

In the nightcap, three Rose-Hulman pitchers combined on a one-hitter in a 7-1 victory.  Trevor Dallio picked up the win, allowing one hit and one unearned run with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.  Drew Borman tossed 1.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts, before Quintin Bynum closed the game with a scoreless seventh and one strikeout.

Offensively, three Fightin' Engineers had multiple hits in game two.  Casey had a single, double and three RBIs to lead the 11-hit attack.  Shipley had two singles and scored twice, and Davis Robeson also contributed two singles, one run and one RBI to the performance.  Burnside and Ryan Stachowski pitched in with one hit, one run and one RBI each.
