Volleyball Stands 2-2 After Saturday Split in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The 2018 Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team completed a 2-2 weekend in Chicago with a three-set win and a tight five-set loss on Saturday.

In the opener, the Fightin' Engineers relied on a balanced team performance to defeat North Park 25-19, 25-23, 25-18.  Bailey MacInnis led the offense with 14 kills, and Katie Orbeta contributed 8 kills and 18 assists.

Marissa Gollnick had a team-high 19 assists and joined Maria Bruner with five kills.  Bruner also led the defense with four total blocks.

Katryna DahlbergAdekite Oladipupo and Gollnick all reached double figures in digs with 18, 16 and 12, respectively.  Orbeta paced the squad with two service aces.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman rallied to force a fifth set before falling 13-25, 25-21, 25-11, 16-25, 15-7 to Cornell College.  MacInnis led Rose-Hulman with 11 kills.  Orbeta recorded a triple-double with 25 assists, 18 digs and 10 kills on the afternoon.

Gollnick tallied eight kills to go along with 19 assists, 13 digs and two block assists in the match.  Dahlberg had a team-high 28 digs, with Oladipupo contributing 15.

Following the tournament, MacInnis and Dahlberg earned spots on the University of Chicago Gargoyle Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Rose-Hulman stands 2-2 on the season and hosts Webster University in the home opener on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
