TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled perennial women's soccer national power Illinois Wesleyan University in a tight matchup before narrowly falling 1-0 in the Grey Matters Awareness Game on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman students, faculty, staff, friends and parents raised over $700 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in a game that honors those battling brain cancer. The largest crowd of the season saw the Fightin' Engineers record six shots on the day and allow just 10 against the Titans.
Rosie Pettenuzzo scored the lone goal of the match in the ninth minute, and the Titans held on for the win. Rose-Hulman had quality scoring chances in each half, including a diving save by goalkeeper Kelli McCarthy on a shot from Christina Rogers.
Jessica Wells led the Rose-Hulman offense with two shots. Katie Demert paced the defensive effort with four saves.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 6-1-1, while Rose-Hulman stands 4-4. The Fightin' Engineers travel to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College for a crosstown matchup on Wednesday at 5 pm.
