ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology split a pair of matches to open the Washington University Invitational on Friday night in St. Louis.
In the opener against MacMurray, Rose-Hulman recorded 38 kills in a 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 victory. Grace Beach led the offense with 12 kills. Bailey MacInnis, Sydney Griffith and Adekite Oladipupo added six kills each.
Katie Orbeta contributed team-highs of 31 assists and 17 digs. Katryna Dahlberg also reached double figures in digs with 16. Griffith led the front row defense with three total blocks.
Carthage improved to 4-2, including a win over No. 9 ranked Southwestern earlier this year, with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-12 victory over the Engineers in the nightcap.
Marissa Gollnick, Maria Bruner, Mia Styczynski and Beach led the Engineers with five kills each. Gollnick also had a match-high 11 assists.
Golnick paced the team with nine digs, and four players added one service ace each.
The Fightin' Engineers will complete the Washington University Invitational with matches against Birmingham Southern and Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday.
