Game Recap: Men's Track and Field |

Engineers Have Strong Showing in Season Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won eight events as both the men's and women's teams placed second in the Friday Night Spikes season opener.

The event featured 4 schools.  Washington University swept the men's and women's titles, with Rose-Hulman placing second on the men's and women's side.  The meet also included Hanover and Manchester.

Rose-Hulman men's field event winners included Eric Fiacable in the weight throw (56' 6.5") and Nathan Schrader in the shot put (46' 5.5").

The Fightin' Engineers running event winners included Noah Heckenlively in the mile (4:31.27), Aaron Lannoy in the 800-meter run (1:57.72), and Noah Thomas in the 60-meter dash (7.12).  The men's 4-x-200 meter relay team composed of Dawson Allen, Noah Thomas, Kristian Zadlo, and Stephen Payne was also able take first place with a time of 1:33.16.

On the women's side, Dara Smith was able to get first in the high jump (5' 2.25'') and the women's 4-x-200 meter relay team composed of Lauren London, Mary-Helen Shomba, Tina Rogers, and Adekite Oladipupo was also able to place first with a time of 1:49.53. 

Rose-Hulman combined for nine runner-up finishes on the evening.  Men's field event runner up finishers included Nick Palmer in the pole vault (14'6''), Fiacable in the shot put (46'2.5''), and Nathan Schrader in the weight throw (51'8.5'').  Runner ups in the running events included Dawson Allen in the 60-meter dash (7.16), Ben Hall in the mile (4:31.33), and Tyler McCormick in the 60-meter hurdles (9.07).

Women runner ups for the Engineers included Tina Rogers in the 400-meter dash (1:03.43), Jessica Wells in the mile (5:35.32), and Lauren London in the 60-meter hurdles (9.34). 

Rose-Hulman will compete next in their Friday Night Invitational on Friday, 1/18.  Events will begin at 6:00 PM.
