BLUFFTON, Ohio-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers women's basketball team recorded a win on the road against the Bluffton Beavers with a final score of 63-34 on Saturday. This win improves the Engineers to 10-5 overall and 7-1 in the HCAC.
Ally Bromenschenkel led the team in scoring recording a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kayla Gerken was the team's second leading scorer with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Debie Gedeon was also able to make an impact with 11 points and 3 assists. Hannah Woody also reached double digits in scoring finishing with 10 points.
The Engineers started off aggressive. They began the game with a 6-0 run to jump ahead of the Beavers. Bluffton was able to fight back to take the lead at the end of the first quarter with the score at 16-12.
Rose-Hulman was able to get going offensively in the second quarter outscoring the Beavers 14-8. This gave the Engineers a two point lead with the score at 26-24 going into halftime. Ally Bromenschenkel was able to lead the team in scoring with 8 points in the first half.
Rose-Hulman was able to play a high level of defense in the third quarter holding the Beavers to just 3 points. The Engineers were able to build their lead as they stood ahead of the Beavers 39-27 heading into the final quarter of play. Rose-Hulman would continue to play amazing defensively holding the Beavers to just 7 points in the fourth quarter and defeat Bluffton with a final score of 63-34.
The team was able to finish the game with a 36-28 rebounding advantage over Bluffton. They also held the Beavers to 21.3% shooting from the field compared to the Engineers 51.1%. The Engineers defense only allowed the Beavers to score 10 points in the second half.
The Engineers stand at 10-5 overall and 7-1 in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Wednesday, 1/16 traveling to take on the Anderson Ravens at 7:30 PM.
