Men's Basketball Hosts Defiance in Saturday 1 PM Contest

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team hosts Defiance College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action with a special early start time of 1 p.m.  The game is 7th and Elm Bar and Grille Night, located in downtown Terre Haute.

Rose-Hulman (11-5, 6-2 HCAC) News & Notes:

  • Rose-Hulman enters Saturday's game in a 3-way tie for the HCAC lead.  The Fightin' Engineers are joined at 7-2 in league play by Hanover and Transylvania. 
  • Rose-Hulman had its 6-game winning streak snapped in last Saturday's 55-49 loss at Bluffton.  The streak put Rose-Hulman into a tie for first place in the HCAC standings. 
  • Rose-Hulman has won 20 of its last 25 HCAC regular season games dating back to last season.
  • The Rose-Hulman offensive attack features three players averaging in double figures.  Charlie Aimone leads the team at 14.3 points per game, Ryuji Aoki is averaging 12.8, and Craig McGee is scoring 12.3.  John Czarnecki (9.1 ppg) and Luke Callahan (8.9 ppg) have added scoring depth.
  • After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman will return home for Milwaukee Tool Night on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.  Free Chick-fil-A sandwiches will be available to students, who will compete to win Milwaukee Tool gift sets and have the chance to win free books next quarter.

The Opponent: Defiance (2-14, 0-9 HCAC)

  • Defiance has been extremely competitive in the 2019 calendar year, with all five losses by 10 points or less including one double overtime game.
  • Marell Jordan and Tyler Andrew lead the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 12.9 points and 12.6 points per game.  Sean Tyson is adding 10.0 points per game.
  • The youthful Yellow Jackets squad features freshmen as the team's top three leading scorers.
