Women's Basketball Tops Defiance on Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Terre Haute, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers women's basketball team was able to secure a win against the Defiance Yellow Jackets with a final score of 67-53 on Saturday during their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.  This win improves the Engineers to 12-5 overall and 9-1 in the HCAC.

Before today's game, the Rose-Hulman women's basketball team took the time to honor multiple different breast cancer survivors from the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivors Organization.  Each survivor was honored with a pink flower given to them by an athlete on the team.  The program considers it a true honor to recognize these women for their individual battles with breast cancer.  All money raised through donations and t-shirt sales have been donated to the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivors Organization.

Abby Bromenschenkel was the team's leading scorer with 26 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Ally Bromenschenkel also had a productive day recording a double-double with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Debie Gedeon was also able to make an impact with 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

The game started as an evenly matched contest.  The Engineers would hold a one point lead at the end of the first quarter with the score at 17-16.

In the second quarter, the Engineers were able to break away from the Yellow Jackets to establish a comfortable lead.  They would stand ahead 34-26 as the game headed to halftime.  Ally Bromenschenkel was the team's leading scorer through two quarters with 13 points in the first half.

Rose-Hulman continued to control the pace in the second half outscoring the Yellow Jackets 14-8 in the third quarter.  This made the score 48-34 with the Engineers in front heading to the final quarter of play.  Rose-Hulman would ultimately defeat the Yellow Jackets with a final score of 67-53.

The Engineers stand at 12-5 overall and 9-1 in the HCAC.  Rose-Hulman will return to action on the road next Wednesday, 1/23 against Mount St. Joseph University at 7:30 PM.
