Women's Soccer Clinches Share of HCAC Title with Win at Anderson

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology clinched at least a share of its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer regular season championship since 2009 with a 2-1 victory at Anderson University on Wednesday.

With the win, the Fightin' Engineers also secured the No. 1 seed for the HCAC Tournament that begins with semifinal action at Rose-Hulman next week.  The HCAC Tournament schedule and pairings will be finalized after Saturday's soccer action.

Rose-Hulman improved to 12-4-1 overall and 7-0-1 with the victory.  The Fightin' Engineers have not lost since September 21, a stretch of 10 consecutive matches without a loss.

On Wednesday, Rose-Hulman relied on two first-half goals to take the early lead and secure the victory.  Jessica Wells scored her HCAC leading 12th goal of the season in the 15th minute to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a pass from Sarah Shoemaker.  Sidney Hohl increased the lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the season on a steal and score in the 33rd minute.

Rose-Hulman outshot the Ravens 26-10 on the afternoon, with Wells and Lane Lawrence with six shots each.  Taylor Baker scored in the second half for Anderson, and the Ravens tried to tie the game with a late charge before Rose-Hulman held on for the victory.

Katie Demert won her 10th game in goal this season with four saves for the Fightin' Engineers.  Rose-Hulman hosts Transylvania University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Senior Day regular season finale.
