Rose-Hulman Football Completes Winning Season with Loss at #8 St. John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completed its ninth consecutive season at .500 or above under head coach Jeff Sokol with a 47-14 loss to No. 8 ranked Saint John's (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon.

Eric Morris finished 16-of-28 through the air for 153 yards and one touchdown, and Garrett Wight rushed for 117 yards on 41 carries with one touchdown to cap one of the top rushing careers in Rose-Hulman history.  Wight completes his career ranked No. 5 in Rose-Hulman history in career rushing yards (2,787); No. 4 in rushing touchdowns (34); and No. 4 in total rushing attempts (648).

Noah Thomas became the first 1,000-yard receiver in a season in Rose-Hulman history with nine catches for 98 yards and one score, increasing his season totals to 71 receptions for 1,065 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Thomas caps his junior year ranked fourth in school history in career pass receptions (182) and receiving yards (2,379) and third in touchdown catches (24).

Jackson Erdmann led the Saint John's offense with a 17-of-32 day for 308 yards and five touchdowns.  Matt Mohr had three receptions for 108 yards and one score, and T.J. Hodge hauled in six catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns for the Johnnies.

Pete Cross led the Rose-Hulman defense with nine tackles, two tackles-for-loss and one quarterback hurry.  Alex Perez added six tackles and one pass breakup for the Engineers.

Rose-Hulman scored both of its touchdowns in the fourth quarter after Saint John's had built its lead after three quarters.  Thomas connected with Morris on a 23-yard touchdown pass, and Wight scored from five yards out for the final score of the season.

Saint John's will take a 9-1 record into the NCAA Division III Playoffs next week.  The Fightin' Engineers complete the season with an overall record of 6-4.
