Men's Basketball Narrowly Falls 69-64 at Albion

ALBION, Mich. -- Albion College placed five players in double figures and withstood a late Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rally to pick up a 69-64 men's basketball victory on Sunday afternoon.

Quinton Armstrong led Albion with 18 points.  Four Britons scored between 10 and 12 points in a balanced offensive attack.

Max Chaplin and Trey Wurtz paced Rose-Hulman with 12 points each.  Chaplin was 3-7 from the field with three rebounds, while Wurtz finished 5-7 shooting.  Chaplin reached double figures in scoring for the first time in his rookie season.

John Czarnecki added nine points and five rebounds, and Jacob Back contributed six points and five rebounds to the Rose-Hulman effort.  Zach Callahan and Eli Combs each added five points.

Rose-Hulman led 45-42 midway through the second half, before Albion answered with seven straight points.  The Britons stretched the lead to eight points at 63-55, but two free throws from Chaplin and a layup by Back brought the Engineers within 63-59 with 41 seconds left.

Albion answered with four straight free throws to improve to 5-1 on the season.  Rose-Hulman stands 2-4 and opens the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule at Manchester University on Wednesday.
