Men's Basketball Picks Up Senior Day Home Win Over Manchester

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology forward Charlie Aimone celebrated Senior Day with a season-high 29-point performance, helping the Fightin' Engineers top Manchester University 68-59 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Hulbert Arena.

Aimone finished 8-16 from the field, 3-7 from three-point range and 10-13 on the free throw line for the third-highest scoring performance in his career.

The Fightin' Engineers celebrated their senior class of five prior to Saturday's game.  Aimone was joined by Ryuji Aoki, Luke Callahan, Nick McGrail and Trey Sykes in pregame festivities.  Aoki and Callahan were unable to play to injury, while McGrail had two points and three rebounds and Sykes contributed four points to the victory.

John Czarnecki joined Aimone in double figures with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Craig McGee added nine points, five rebounds and three assists, while Michael Lake came off the bench with seven points for the Fightin' Engineers.

Manchester celebrated the career of its fourth all-time leading scorer Adrian Johnson in the contest.  Johnson scored 27 points to complete his career with 1,854 points.

Rose-Hulman shot 41% for the game and hit 15-21 free throws to separate from a close contest.  Johnson closed Manchester within 60-58 at the 2:47 mark, and Aimone answered with a basket at the 1:47 mark to push the Rose-Hulman lead to 62-58.  The Engineers hit four free throws and Czarnecki scored on a layup to secure the win.

Rose-Hulman completes the regular season at 17-8 and 13-5 in HCAC play.  The Fightin' Engineers have the No. 3 seed for this week's HCAC Tournament and will face Franklin College on Friday night at 8 p.m. in a first round game at league champion Hanover.  The winner will face Transylvania on Saturday at 7 p.m.  The championship game, played at Hanover regardless of results throughout the weekend, will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m.
