AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology put up a battle with four three-set singles matches, before narrowly falling 6-3 to Augustana (Ill.) on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus.
Rose-Hulman won at the No. 3 doubles position to head into singles play down just 2-1. Ben Strate and Austin Perry picked up an 8-5 win at the No. 3 doubles flight to put Rose-Hulman on the board.
Ian Landwehr picked up a victory at No. 1 singles before Augustana took a 3-2 lead with a No. 2 singles victory. The match would be decided by four three-set singles matches at flights No. 3-6, with Augustana winning three matches to secure the 6-3 win.
Josh Giambattista earned Rose-Hulman's three-set win by a 10-1 count at No. 5 singles. Two of the matches were decided by just two points.
Augustana improved to 7-2 on the season. Rose-Hulman completes its Southern Trip with a match at Oglethorpe University on Saturday.
