Robeson and Shipley combine for 8 hits in Rose-Hulman's 18-14 victory against Saint Mary's (MN)

AUBURNDALE, Fla. --Davis Robeson and Conner Shipley each collected four hits to help lead the Rose-Hulman Engineers over the Saint Mary's (MN) Cardinals 18-14 on Tuesday.

Quintin Bynum (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Rose-Hulman (2-0). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on three hits.

In addition to his four hits, Shipley had three RBIs to lead the Engineers. Robeson added four RBIs to his four-hit performance as well. Ryan Stachowski also chipped in for Rose-Hulman, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding three doubles, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Engineers were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Rose-Hulman put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Robeson.

The Cardinals expanded their lead to 10-3 before the Engineers offense got back to work, taking the lead in the fourth. The Rose-Hulman offense exploded for 10 runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Conner Helbling, which brought the Engineers lead to 13-10.

Saint Mary's (MN) narrowed Rose-Hulman's lead to 13-12 before the Engineers stretched the advantage to 14-12 in the fifth inning.

The Cardinals gained ground, closing the gap to 14-13 until Rose-Hulman added some insurance in the eighth. bringing the score to 17-13 in favor of Rose-Hulman.

Saint Mary's (MN) got within 17-14 until the Engineers scored again in the ninth inning to stretch its lead to 18-14. Stachowski came across to score the lone run of the inning for Rose-Hulman and get them on the board. The score remained 18-14 for the rest of the game, as the Engineers coasted to the win.
