Game Recap: Men's Track and Field |

Men's Track & Field Places 2nd, Women 6th at Washington U.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on five first-place finishes to compile a strong overall day at the Washington University Invitational on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineer men came home second of eight teams in the event, while the women's squad placed sixth of nearly a dozen squads overall.

Four Rose-Hulman men's athletes won field events to pace the performance.  Winners included Eric Fiacable earned first-place honors in the hammer (191' 11") with his second best career throw; Cameron Prisby captured the pole vault with a leap of 14' 3 1/4" in windy conditions; Nathan Schrader won the javelin (167' 3"); and Trey Sykes added a win in the triple jump with a strong early season mark of 46' 1 1/4".

On the women's side, Dara Smith earned an event victory in the high jump with a leap of 5' 3".

Rose-Hulman added a pair of runner-up finishes on the day.  Schrader came home second in the shot put (46' 9") and Sykes was runner-up in the long jump (21' 6 3/4").

Noah Thomas set a school record in the 100-meter dash to lead his two third-place finishes against a national caliber field.  Thomas ran a new RHIT record time of 10.91 seconds in the 100, and was also third in the 200 in 22.31 seconds.  Nathan Ciriacks also came home third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:50.55), and Kristian Zadlo was third in the pole vault (13' 3 1/2").

The women's squad added two third-place finishes.  Tina Rogers ran a time of 1:00.89 in the 400-meters on the track, and Cassie Utley came home third in a field event with her mark of 97' 9" in the javelin.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Eastern Illinois Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
