Rose-Hulman, Carroll Split Sunday Baseball Doubleheader

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology enjoyed a solid offensive performance in game one, before strong Carroll pitching allowed the two teams to split a baseball doubleheader on Sunday at Art Nehf Field.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman scored six runs in the sixth and four times in the second as an 18-hit attack propelled the Fightin' Engineers to an 18-7 victory.  David Burnside led the offense with three hits, including a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.  Conner Shipley scored three runs, had two RBIs and added a single and a double.  Conner Helbling also contributed two singles and three RBIs to the offensive attack.

Other Rose-Hulman players with multiple hits included Brian Pershing with two singles and two runs scored, and Luke Calabrese with two singles, two RBIs and one run scored.

On the mound, Jacob Woodrome led the Fightin' Engineers with three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first college win.  Dan Connolly closed the game with a scoreless seventh.

In the nightcap, the Carroll pitching duo of Seth Smith and Andrew Stone held Rose-Hulman to five hits and allowed the visiting Pioneers to win 3-1.  Luke Kluemper led the Rose-Hulman game two offense with two singles and one RBI.  Sean Casey added a triple and scored once.

Rose-Hulman improved to 10-5 on the season and extended its current winning streak to four games.  Carroll dropped to 4-7 overall.  The Fightin' Engineers open the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday at home against Mount St. Joseph.
