Softball Team Falls to Manchester in 2019 Home Finale

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Manchester University relied on a consistent hitting attack to pick up a doubleheader sweep over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Fightin' Engineers 2019 home softball finale on Friday night at the Engineer Softball Field.

In the opener, Manchester scored five times in the third inning to pull away and earn a 13-2 victory.  Haley Perez led the Manchester effort iwth a home run and the pitching victory.

Angela Boulboulle led the Rose-Hulman offense with three singles and one run scored.  Emily Struble had a double and scored once, with Jessica Thuer and Hannah Bach contributing RBIs to the Engineer offense.

In the nightcap, Manchester pulled away with a three-run sixth inning to earn a 8-1 victory.  Krystal Sellers had three hits for the Spartans, while Zoie Penn hit a pair of doubles with two runs scored and one RBI for the winners.

Boulboulle had a single and one run scored to pace Rose-Hulman.  Jessica Thuer added a double, and Gabrielle Davidson and Sarah Shoemaker each had singles for the Fightin' Engineers.

Manchester improved to 12-20 overall and 6-6 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 6-22 overall and 2-12 in conference games.  The Fightin' Engineers conclude the 2019 season with a doubleheader at Anderson University on Saturday, with the start time moved up to 11 am to attempt to beat a forecasted rain.
