GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Jessica Wells recorded her second career hat trick with all three goals as the visiting Fightin' Engineers earned a 3-1 women's soccer victory at DePauw University on Tuesday night.
Wells scored all three goals in the second half, scoring in the 51st, 66th and 80th minutes to lead the Fightin' Engineers to their fourth win of the season. Zoie Obst of DePauw tied the score at 1-1, before Wells answered with her final two goals to complete the scoring.
With her second career hat trick (St. Mary-of-the-Woods in 2017 was the other), Wells moved within one score of Rose-Hulman's career top five with her 30th, 31st and 32nd goals.
Mariah Mufich and Christina Rogers provided the assist on the first goal; Rogers had the assist on the second; and Lane Lawrence provided the assist on the final goal of the evening.
The Fightin' Engineers outshot DePauw 13-10 in the contest, including 11-4 in the second half. Wells had four shots, and Lawrence contributed three to the Rose-Hulman offense.
Katie Demert led a strong defensive effort with six saves in the contest.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-4 on the season, while DePauw dropped to 4-5. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home on Saturday against Westminster (Mo.).
