TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team put up a battle against visiting DePauw University before falling 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 25-17 in the 2019 home opener on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena.
Morgan Stearley led the visiting Tigers with 23 kills in the match. Grace Filbrun added 27 assists and 12 digs.
Elizabeth Canon paced Rose-Hulman with 12 kills, and Riley Woodruff also reached double figures with 10 kills. Katie Orbeta had eight kills and had team-highs with 21 assists and four service aces. Eryn Castaneda provided 19 assists to the offense.
Katryna Dahlberg recorded 30 digs to lead the Fightin' Engineers. Woodruff had one solo block and three block assists, and Madison Wendelin contributed three block assists and five kills to the performance.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home against Illinois Tech (noon) and Trine (4 pm) on Saturday afternoon.
