TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Franklin College relied on a fast start to hold off a Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology second half push and earn a 67-50 women's basketball victory at Hulbert Arena on Wednesday night.
Franklin built a 23-4 edge after the first quarter, but Rose-Hulman closed the first half on a 9-0 run and held Franklin without a point for 4:31 to close within 37-18 at halftime.
Rose-Hulman trimmed the margin to 43-29 at the 3:16 mark after holding Franklin to just four points in six minutes in the third quarter. The Grizzles closed the third quarter with a spurt to take a 53-34 lead and gain control of the game.
Nosa Igiehon and Hannah Woody led the Fightin' Engineers with 11 points each. Igiehon had a game-high seven rebounds, while Woody recorded a career-high six assists in the contest.
Jordan Barlow added six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Kahlan Jester had five points and three assists, and Rose Burnham scored five points and grabbed six rebounds for the Engineers.
Franklin placed three players in double figures, led by Bayleigh Walker with 16 points.
Franklin improved to 10-5 and 6-3 in league play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-8 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers host Bluffton University in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., with a pregame ceremony featuring local cancer survivors starting at 2:45 p.m.
