Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology reclaimed the John Mutchner Cup for the 9th consecutive year with a 64-57 men's basketball victory over Earlham College on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena.
Rose-Hulman and Earlham vie for the Cup one time per year, with the Fightin' Engineers hosting the game on a rotation this season. The Cup is named in honor of the 25-year men's basketball head coach and athletic director who was also a standout student-athlete at Earlham. John Mutchner Court inside Hulbert Arena is also named in his honor.
On the floor, Rose-Hulman relied on a 17-2 run over an 8-minute span of the second half to turn a 46-41 deficit into a 58-48 lead with 4:11 remaining.Â
Max Chaplin and
Dillon Duff combined for 15 of the 17 points during the key run.
For the game, Duff led the team with 17 points on 7-11 from the field. Chaplin added 15 points on 8-10 from the free throw line.
Other key contributors included
Terry Hicks with 7 points and 10 rebounds;
Jackson Kabrick with 6 points and 4 rebounds; and
Samvit Ram with 5 points. Â
Trey Wurtz added 7 rebounds,
Bradley Harden contributed 4 assists,
Miles McGowen scored 4 points, and
Simon Blair had 4 rebounds to provide sparks off the bench.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in league play with its 2nd consecutive win. Earlham dropped to 1-5 and 0-2 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home on Saturday at Mount St. Joseph with a 3 pm start time.
