TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Manchester University rallied from a 4-point halftime deficit with a strong defensive effort to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 43-38 in women's basketball action on Saturday night at Hulbert Arena.
Jordan Barlow led the Rose-Hulman offense with 14 points and nine rebounds.Â
Rose Burnham added nine points and four rebounds, and
Mira Randolph contributed five points for the Fightin' Engineers.
Madison Stamm paced the balanced Manchester attack with nine points, and Miranda Bieghler had eight points.
Rose-Hulman trailed 18-17 late in the first half, before outscoring Manchester 7-2 over the final three minutes. Barlow turned a 20-20 tie into a 24-20 Rose-Hulman lead at the break with two straight baskets.
Manchester relied on a strong defensive effort to hold the Engineers to four points in the third quarter and take a 31-28 lead into the final 10 minutes. Rose-Hulman scored with 44 seconds left on a layup by
Ashley Black to turn the deficit to just three points at 41-38. The Fightin' Engineers earned a stop on the next possession and had a chance to go for a three-pointer and a tie, but a Manchester steal and two free throws iced the game.
Manchester improved to 4-12 overall, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-4. The Fightin' Engineers host Earlham College next Friday at 8:15 pm inside Hulbert Arena.
